Merry Stockings Personalized

Description

These stockings are my own design. I will try to upload my pattern at a later time, for those of you that might be interested. I used a plaid cotton that I had just sitting in my sewing room and a solid red heavy cotton for the cuff. The names were embroidered on the red fabric, with my Babylock machine, before cutting the angled cuff design from the fabric. It made it easier to line up the white embroidery thread names.

They were made the week of Christmas and yes, Santa filled them all!

BURDASTYLE HANDBOOK LAUNCH PARTY IN NEW YORK

I was invited to the Burdastyle Handbook Launch Party and had an absolutely wonderful time despite the fact that I was ill the entire trip. I met so many members from our Burdastyle community along with some great company reps, such as spoonflower.com with Steven and Stitch Editor-in-Chief Tricia Waddell. Members and contributers to the book Anajan, helene, jodi, jeffery, and many more. We went bowling the night before the party. I was the first one up and broke the ice with falling and breaking my arse. LOL Needless to say, it was all good after that!

P.S. I'm wearing the crown!

Vest for Splicer Costume

I made this vest using Home decor fabric for the front and a linen for the back. 8 buttons down the front and a tie cincher in the back. Drafted my own pattern.

Halloween Wreath

This is a Halloween wreath that I made for my son's party.

What I used:

Wire wreath form

2-feather boa's

size 20 wire

2-skulls from Target

Simply wrap the boa around the form using wire to lash it to the form. The two skulls only had one hole in them so I had to put a second hole to thread the wire through and lash them to the wreath. Now that's a simple project!

BOO Bloomers

Orange with black bows Boo Bloomers made for my daughters for Halloween. I wanted to put a pumpkin face on the back side but didn't think they would care for them and then thought about embroidering Boo on the front lower right leg and just ran out of time. Oh well, they will be able to wear them for the fall season.
The pattern is from Colette Patterns and is free here: Colette Free Bloomers Pattern
They are called Madeleine Mini Bloomers.

Been BOOed?

Blue Monster Candy Holder

Place treats in this whimsical milk jug monster and your visitors will have a fun time snatching them from its mouth!

I made this little monster by using the instructions here: daniellesplace

What you will need: Empty plastic milk jug, craft foam, large googly eyes, hot melt glue, scissors, acrylic paint or spray paint, and a feather boa for the hair.

Baby Boo Pumpkin Ghost

These two little baby ghost were made using this tutorial at creative home: Creative Home Arts

I made them for my twin daughters who are away at college and plan to mail them Monday in their scare package. I hope they like them because they were so much fun to make!

You will need:
• 5 7/8" x 3 7/8" craft foam egg*
• 9" x 18" bamboo batt*
• One 9" x 12" rust felt*
• 2" square green felt*
• 3/4" buttons: five brown, one orange, one green,
• One 1/2" gold heart button
• Perle cotton floss: one yd. orange, three yds. brown
• 5" square stripe fabric
• Embroidery needle
• Soft sculpture needle
• Pompoms: one 1/4" orange, one 1/2" brown
• Two 6mm black beads
• Pink chalk or blush
• Fabric glue*

Ghost Pops Halloween Project

Ghost Pops I made using suckers wrapped in white linen. First I cut circles about the size of a salad plate. Wrapped the sucker and used chenille wire to hold in place. Glued google eyes using fabric glue. I made 40 of these for a craft show and sold every one of them!

google eyes (I used 7mm size)

Fabric glue (I used Beacon Adhesives Fabric-Tac Permanent Adhesive)

Round salad plate for template

The box was made by covering a small shoebox with card stock paper and punching holes in the top. Letters were made using my handy dandy cricut machine.

The fusion of card making and fashion sewing! This is a Note card that I have sewn using the Islander Sewing MyStyle Greetings. The little dress is made scraps of left over fabrics. Blue silk dupioni has been used for the dress. Black Sparkle lace with bats on it left over from a halloween costume is used for the under-dress. Gold and red trim and a little black bow with a pearl bead at the waist. A blank note card that I glued some decorative paper on to and the dress form. I actually did sew this little dress on to the cards dress form. This was so much fun to make and hopefully the person I made it for will appreciate the thought.

My Fortune-ate Valentine

These were made by making a 4.5 inch circles and glueing pipe cleaners to the center so that when folded the fabric would keep its shape. I inserted my own personal fun messages and placed them in a serving bowl. I wanted to put them in Chinese food carryout type boxes but just ran out of time to make them.

I gave these to my husband and Valentine to open one each day or a couple a day, his choice.

Blizzard Feb. 2, 2011

The first photo was taken yesterday, Feb. 1st, 2011, just as the blizzard was starting. The second photo is a picture of my car around midnight and yes there is a car under the snow. The third photo is my neighbors cars early this morning, Feb. 2nd, 2011. The news said we got about 15 inches of snow in my area, but the areas south of Milwaukee got around 20 inches. Some of the highways have been closed and most business's are closed for the day. Even our emergency vehicles have had issues with this weather! FUN, FUN, FUN!

Colette Bloomers ROCK!

Work Out with Master Kim

This is my son working out with his Master that he has been with since he was 6 years old. He actually participated in the Jr. Olympics at Atlanta GA a couple of years ago. He has worked so hard to get to this point. He is a third degree blackbelt. Normally people do not know what he has accomplished as he does not brag or tell anyone about this part of his life, but I felt as his mother this is one time I will make the exception and do it for him. If he see's this he may want me to take it down, so watch it while you can. LOL

Owl Birthday Dress

I just wanted to share some photos of my new creation. I made this dress for a little girl that my daughter nanny’s for. The pattern I used is by Farbenmix / Studio Tantrum, The Feliz Dress. It has two layers with a pinafore on top and a dress under which I embellished with ruffles. The upper back section has four rows of elastic that is decorative as well as convenient for putting on and taking off. The tie in the back also helps to adjust the dress as she grows.

The owl fabric was purchased from JoAnn Fabrics and the brown check fabric was purchased from Chez Ami in their fabric section.

The dress form that it is on is for a size 4t and the dress is a size 6, so it looks a bit large in the pictures.

My Crazy Valentine

This is the Valentine that I gave to my crazy Valentine this year. I found the tutorial at http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=4778 . I used a khaki linen for the outer envelope and the insert and I used a cotton heart print fabric for the lining of the envelope. I tried my luck at hand stitching my Valentines name on the outer envelope so it looks like it could use some help. I used my embroidery machine to do the lettering on the insert “I LOVE U” and then hand stitched some old heart trim that was given to me off of freecycle.com. Oh and a red button for the closure of the envelope.

Nathan's "Team Fortress" Halloween Costume

This costume was made to mimic a video game, "Team Fortress" soldier. I only made the red jacket and the rest of the clothing, helmet, boots and helmet were purchased from a Army surplus store. The big gun was made by Nathan and Tim using PVC pipe, metal shop light shade, tape guns taken apart for handles and site, with all of it spray painted with a mat black paint. The red jacket was made from a twill fabric. I used snaps for the front closures and black buttons for the shoulder tabs.

These two skirts were made for a sorority event my twin daughters had. They were supposed to be a modern twist on a 50’s style skirt. I made the skirts by using a Burda pattern #8176. I had to downsize the pattern as it smallest size was a 34 inch hip and my daughters have a almost 32 inch hip. The skirts have a yoke with a side zipper and the fabric is a black cotton polyester blend that has beautiful hand. They received lots of compliments on them at the event, which makes me very happy to know that they enjoyed them and were confident while wearing them.

Manone in Her Dress

This little dress was posted earlier but I wanted to include the pictures of what it looks like on my little niece. She is so cute, I just want to give her a great big hug!

The dress pattern is by Sandi Henderson, "Portabellopixie", "Claire". All fabrics are 100% cotton. The turquoise check fabric was some fabric I had in my stash and the white with multi-colored dots on it was purchased from fashionablefabric.com . The purple butterfly fabric was from a top that was in a bag of clothing I got from freecycle.com. This pattern has extremely easy instructions and Sandi includes extras on basic techniques. There are four different views to choose from and clear instructions are given for each one. Thanks for looking!

Butterfly Claire

Description

This little dress is from a Portabellopixie pattern called Claire, size 6. All fabrics are 100% cotton. The bright multicolored fabric for the main dress is covered by butterfly's. The apron is yellow with little red and white flowers and I used red piping around the edges. I used elastic around the neckline and sleeves.

Description

This is one of three bellydance costumes that I made for a show my daughters did. The theme of the show was America, which is why I used the red, white and blue colors. The top and hip yoke are red velvet and the skirt is a white chiffon. The top buttons in the back and the skirt zips on the side. I adorn the outfit with hand sewn sequins and bead trims. I did use a pattern which I altered to give the desired look. I stayed awake for 48 hours to get these done for the show!

Gwendolyn's Summer Dress

This is a summer dress that I made for my daughter Gwendolyn. It was made using a retro pattern by butterick #6175. The fabric is silky to touch and is very fluid but I am unsure of the type of fabric. Matching the design on the fabric was quite the chore and this is the 2nd one that I made due to size and the ill matching design. Gwendolyn has added a belt to it for her own style. This dress is great for warm weather get togethers !

Quilts for Charity

Hello! I have a special woman I would like for you to meet, her name is Susan Summers. Her sewing story begins when she took a sewing class at her high school, in which she received all A's. I think it is safe to say she was bitten by the sewing bug! A few years later she had the fight of her life with an severe illness and although she is disabled and leading a busy life with her three adult children and two grandchildren, Susan finds it in her self to make and donate quilts to children in need all over the world. The charity she started with was "Healing Of The Hearts" with her quilting teacher Virginia H.. Virginia is who taught Susan to quilt and introduced her to Sandy D. of "Children's Hope Network Adoptions Agency". Susan has made and donated over 2000 quilts, hats and other items just since 2004. Her quilts have been sent to children in China, Russia, Afghanistan and Kabul, in which many of these orphaned children live on the streets in very cold environments. Susan truly enjoys quilting and loves seeing the photos of the children with her quilts to help keep them warm and feel a little bit of security. The only downside for her is the cost of supplies needed to complete these beautiful items. This is where you and I can help, by sending our scrap fabrics left over from projects or unwanted cotton fabrics, quilt batting and quilting thread, to Susan. Backpacks For Brothers

Here is a change of creations, just to mix it up a bit! These are little backpacks for my nephews that they were supposed to get for Christmas! I am slowly going through my UFO's (unfinished objects) pile and hoping to get to the bottom of it by the end of July, maybe! Anyway, about the backpacks, they are made of a tan poly cotton mix on the outside with their names embroidered in green thread. The inside lining is made of 100% cotton green fabric with construction vehicles abound. I also used the same lining fabric for the straps on the outside. I used a McCalls pattern #4609. Strawberry Dreams Forever

Okay! I know it's another dress in the same design and all the fabrics imaginable! This is the last one of this style for a while! Here we go with the description: The pattern used for this one is an older Butterick 4417. I have used all 100% cotton fabrics, the main fabric is black with little strawberries all over it, purchased from fashionablefabrics.com. The lining fabric is red with white pin dots and purchased from eBay. There are no notions, just fabric, thread and bias tape. The dress ties in the back and is gives a bustled look, as well as functionable. If you have any comments please feel free to leave one or two or three...... Happy Sewing!

They are all so quick to make, usually no more than 2 hours, and require no notions. They all tie in the back and the pockets tie as well. All fabrics are 100% cotton, that is for the lining too, which is usually a contrasting fabric. This is a little dress, size 3T, I made for a Charity Auction to raise money for homeless families. It sold for $55. The fabrics are all 100% cotton and there are no zippers, buttons or closure hardware of any kind. The tie in the back is not just for looks, it actually functions as the closure. I love the little pockets on the front, but boy are they something to figure out! I have made several of these little dresses for charity in lots of different fabrics but this is one of my favorites as I love fall colors!

A Dress I Made For Ashlyn

This dress I made for my niece, Ashlyn. The pattern I used was an out of print (OOP) pattern from Butterick #4417. I love the back of this dress! When it is tied it gives it a bustled look, which is so adorable! The fabrics are all 100 percent cotton and the black floral fabric was bought from Fashionablefabrics.com.

I used french seams on the sides and hong kong seam on the back for a clean finish. I also used

hem tape along the hemline for added length as well as cleaner look. The dress is completely lined so no need for a slip.

Nathan's Halloween Costume 2008 "The Death Jester"

Nathan and I spent many hours on this costume. First he presented a picture idea, then we had to take his measurements, after that we had to draft a pattern. With all that behind us we still had to make alterations as we sewed. Boy did we ever sew and sew and sew up to minutes before time for him to go out. Getting the collar to stand up was an issue but we used floral wire fed into narrow seam-like pockets to make it pliable. All in all, we are pleased with the outcome. Oh, and he also had a skull mask that he lost somewhere in the neighborhood, running from ghost and ghouls I guess.

A Good Friends Visit

We were so happy to welcome a good friend that we have not seen or communicated with in 4 years, we call him Master Kim! We met Master Kim 10 years ago when we enrolled our then 5 year old son in his Taekwondo school. Nathan progressed through the many levels of the martial art as we all built a rewarding friendship. Then in 2004 Master Kim had to close his school and move and we also had to move. Somehow our move dates happened on the exact same day in October of 2004, us heading to Georgia and Master Kims family heading to Indiana. We lost touch as phone numbers changed and communication was no longer possible, but then in Master Kim looking through old paperwork from his school found our email address and sent us an email not knowing if that would still be active. We were elated when we received the email and quickly responded! The timing was great as we were moving back to the Midwest and would be closer to our good friend. Well, the weekend of Oct. 25th 2008 was the weekend that we had a visit from Master Kim. We walked to dinner at the nearby Chancery restaurant, which is where this picture was taken. The rest of the weekend was spent catching up and reminiscing! The visit was too short so Nov.1, 2008 Nathan wanted to go to Master Kims new school in Indiana and work out with him again.

Ireland trip

My dream trip to Ireland happend in Feburary 2007 for my husband and mine 20th anniversay. We flew into Dublin airport and traveled down and around THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, it took 9 days. We had a great time meeting new people and making great long distance friends. Everywhere we went the people were so nice and it was geniune! We stayed in a different bed and breakfast every night and one night in a castle in Waterford. Take a look at the pictures and you will love Ireland to. This land really calls me to go back and maybe one day I will.

Nathans' First Sewing Project

Recently while my son and I were trying to think of birthday presents for my twin daughter, his sisters, we ran into apparent dead brain. However, after several days of trying to find the perfect gift for 20 year olds, it occurred to me that my favorite gifts were ones that were made. So I shared this with my son , who has been wanting me to teach him to sew, and he thought making something would be fun. Then we were off to wade through thousands of patterns to find that pajama pants would be his choice. I talked him through laying out and cutting the pattern, then placing pieces together and sewing. He caught on very quickly and sometimes moving on before telling him how to do it. Take a look at the pictures to see Nathans' first sewing project.
